Need a hand?
Ruru's asleep, but we're up. Have a look through the questions below — and if you're still stuck, email us.
01 · the basics
What is Ruru?
Ruru is a reverse alarm clock. Instead of waking you up in the morning, she calls you to bed at night — and won't properly settle until your phone is plugged in and out of reach. Put your phone to bed, and you'll follow.
How does the bedtime call work?
You pick a bedtime in the app. When it arrives, ruru wakes up and starts calling — gently at first, then harder and harder to ignore. The call keeps nudging you until you settle her for the night.
How do I settle Ruru for the night?
Plug your phone into its charger — ideally one you've stashed outside the bedroom. Once your phone is charging at its spot, ruru goes to sleep, and so do you. Your streak grows.
Can I snooze the call?
You can appease her — up to three times per night. Each appeasement buys you a little more time. Push your luck past the third, and Ruru sleeps without you: your streak breaks.
Will Ruru also wake me up in the morning?
No — ruru only does bedtime. Mornings still belong to your regular alarm clock. (Though we find that going to bed on time makes mornings dramatically less horrible.)
02 · troubleshooting
Ruru isn't calling me at bedtime
A few things to check:
1. Notifications. Ruru can't call you if she's muted. Open
Settings → Apps → Ruru → Notifications on your iPhone and make sure
notifications are allowed.
2. Focus & Do Not Disturb. If you use a Focus mode in the evening, add Ruru to its allowed apps so her calls come through.
3. Your bedtime. Double-check the bedtime set in the app — especially after travelling across time zones.
Still silent? Email us and we'll dig in.
I plugged my phone in, but Ruru won't settle
Make sure the phone is actually charging (look for the charging indicator — loose cables and dusty ports are the usual suspects), then give it a moment. If ruru still won't settle, force-quit the app, reopen it, and plug in again. If it keeps happening, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.
I lost my streak and it wasn't my fault
Streaks are meant to be earned, so we don't hand them back lightly — but if a bug, a crash, or a dead charger genuinely ate your streak, email us with what happened and we'll make it right.
Which permissions does Ruru need, and why?
Notifications — this is how ruru calls you to bed. Without it, she has no voice. We only use it for bedtime; no marketing pings, no “we miss you” nonsense.
If the app asks for anything else, it will explain why at the moment it asks — and it will always work in your favour at bedtime, never against you.
03 · account & privacy
What data does Ruru collect?
As little as possible — ruru is built for bedtime, not data harvesting. The App Store listing shows the current privacy label, and if you have any question about your data (or want it deleted), email us and we'll sort it out.
How do purchases, refunds and subscriptions work?
Anything you buy in Ruru goes through Apple. You can manage or cancel a
subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone,
and request refunds at
reportaproblem.apple.com.
If something looks wrong with a purchase,
email us and we'll help untangle it.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
We'd love to hear it — jonas@tryruru.com. For bugs, include your iPhone model, iOS version, and what you were doing when things went sideways. For feature ideas, just tell us what would help you get to bed.

Email us and a human (not a monster) will get back to you — usually within a day or two.
